Dragons rally to a draw with TigersBy Andrew Soong St. Donat/RDP 2 | NDG 2 The NDG Tigers held the undefeated St. Donat RDP Dragons to a 2-2 tie Friday night in Midget BB hockey action at the Bill Durnan arena in Snowdon. “We gave them a run for their money in the first and second period,” said Tigers Captain Anton Sederak whose team also played one player short throughout the game. “Next time we will give them a loss and not a tie.” Both teams seemed evenly matched in the first and second period of the game with the puck being passed back and forth. The Tigers were able to break away from the stalemate scoring early in the third period with a goal by Jeremy Castelli followed less than three minutes later with another goal by teammate Justin Boisvert with 12:35 left despite playing short one player. However, the Dragons took advantage of a power play with a goal scored by Jean-Philippe Lefebvre that was followed shortly with another goal by teammate Guillaume Poirier with less than nine minutes to go. According to Tigers head coach Chris Maggio, “It came down to the penalties and that is why we didn’t win.” “When you play short-handed you know that they are going to eventually score,” said Sederak about missing members of the Tigers. “They [The Dragons] came back because of our penalties.” Though undefeated to-date the Dragons were disappointed, but not deterred by the tie. Many of the squad’s players were victims of the flu and some who had been immunized for the H1N1 virus were also suffering from side-effects from the vaccine they had received earlier. According to Dragons head coach Sylvain Ally the game “Was not our best match, but we still haven’t lost.” “They deserve the tie,” said Ally about the Dragons’ whose team captain Steven Taddeo was also benched because of injury. “Our kids gave it 150 percent and even though they were down by two points they still came back.” |
